Review: Poppy Harmon and the Backstabbing Bachelor

Poppy Harmon and the Backstabbing Bachelor Poppy Harmon and the Backstabbing Bachelor by Lee Hollis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is the fourth book of the Desert Flowers Mystery series. This series keeps getting better and better. In this book, a group of young people are robbing the elderly. Poppy and the Desert Flowers Detective agency are on the job as Poppy goes undercover at an estate as an old woman who needs help. Then, strange things start happening when a woman who borrows her car is run off the road and killed. Poppy stays undercover, which leads to the arrest of the killer. I thought this story was great. It was funny, and I really liked the characters. I thought Poppy, Violet, and Iris were great characters. They were funny, and their friendship is so great to read. I also thought Matt was a great character as well. He might be an actor, but his personality was great as well. I thought the ending was great. I cannot wait to read book 5 - Poppy Harmon and the Shooting Star. Overall, a great read.

Review: Poppy Harmon Investigates

Poppy Harmon Investigates Poppy Harmon Investigates by Lee Hollis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Read

Actual Rating: 3.75

This was an enjoyable read. This is the first book of the Desert Flowers Mystery series. In this book, we meet Poppy Harmon, a retiree and a widow. She decides to start a career as a private eye and opens the Desert Flower Detective agency with her two best friends, Violet and Iris. However, things are not going well as people do not want to do business with "three" sixty-year-old women. Poppy asks her daughter's boyfriend, Matt to join the team, and he brings in a case that seems more problematic than intended. I thought this story was great. It was funny, and I really liked the characters. I thought Poppy, Violet, and Iris were great characters. They were funny, and their friendship is so great to read. I also thought Matt was a great character as well. He might be an actor, but his personality was great as well. I thought the ending was great. Review: Caution to the Wind

Caution to the Wind Caution to the Wind by Giana Darling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an incredible read. This is seventh book of the Fallen Men series, and I loved it. This story is about former doctor turned biker, Henning “Axe-Man” Axelsen and Mei Zhen Marchand. In this book, Mei Zhen has left Henning and Cleo for eight years and comes back to them when something horrible happens to Cleo. Henning is angry and hates Mei for abandoning them, and Mei is trying to prove that she still loves them, and also to the Fallen MC family. Mei is still trying to avenge the death of Henning’s wife and Cleo’s mother, Katie Kay, who Mei saw get killed. Mei Zhen is Henning’s stepdaughter, Cleo’s best friend. She is willing to fight for the people that she love, and she does martial arts. I thought she was a badass, snarky, and beautiful heroine. Henning is as protective as they come. He is willing to do whatever is necessary to protective his family and the Fallen MC. I thought he was protective, over-the-top, and sexy. I love their chemistry. Although, they have a big age gap between them, that doesn’t stop their love and their chemistry just oozed off the page. I am happy for Henning and Mei got there happily ever after. I can’t wait to read the next book, which is about Cedar, and the Calgary Fallen MC. Overall, an amazing read.

Review: Learning The Hard Way

Learning The Hard Way Learning The Hard Way by Kassandra Cross
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Okay Read

Actual Rating: 2.5

This was an alright read. This was a student-teacher relationship romance story. It was not the best student-teacher relationship story I have read. I thought the story was too short. The student-teacher aspect of the story was non-existent until the end, and I was expecting more. I would have liked to see more interactions between the main leads. Also, I would have liked to get more background of the characters instead of being directly into the story. I had high expectations for this one, but I think it fell flat. I am slightly disappointed with the way the story ended. I think it would have been better and more interesting if the story was longer. I do think that Kassandra Cross has potential and will read more of her works in the future. I just thought this book was not the best student-teacher relationship story. Overall, an okay read.

Review: The Sacrifice

The Sacrifice The Sacrifice by Shantel Tessier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is the third book of Shantel Tessier's The L.O.R.D.S series. At Barrington University, there is a secret society where many young men are groomed to become Lords, where they devote their lives to violence in exchange for power. During their senior year of initiation, they receive their Chosen and have their futures planned out for them. In this book, Tyson puts his revenge plan in effect by disrupting the wedding of Laikyn and marrying her himself. Tyson has lived with one foot in the Lords society, and the foot out of it. When we first meet him in The Ritual, I thought he was mysterious. However, I got all the answers that I wanted to know in this book. Laikyn or Lake was a great character. I thought she was sassy. She did not back down from a fight. The story was great. It was fast-paced, had lots of action, plot twists. I thought Tyson and Laikyn were a great couple. I am happy that they got their happily ever after. I cannot wait to continue the series. The Sabotage, here I come! Overall, a great read.

Review: Deadly Ride

Deadly Ride Deadly Ride by Jody Holford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is the third book in the Britton Bay series. In this book, Sam, Molly’s boyfriend is hosting a Classic Car Crawl in Britton Bay, and Molly is covering the story as a journalist because they are short staffed. When one of the founders of the Classic Car Show is found dead, the investigation of “who-dun-it” begins. I thought this story was great. It was fast-paced and I thought it was great to see more of her relationship with Sam in this book. It made the book more interesting as the story continued. The characters were great. Our heroine, Molly has grown and I thought she was smart, witty, and fun. She has grown on me as the series continued. I cannot wait to her growth in book 4. I am wondering how book four will turn out. I cannot wait. Deadly Drama, here we come. Overall, a great read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Read

This was an interesting read. This is the fourth and final book of The Guild Codex: Demonized series. It is part of the urban fantasy series The Guild Codex, but it can be read as a standalone series. In this book, we finally conclude Robin and Zylas’s story. They are trying to uncover the secrets of the Vh’alyir’s Amulet before Claude accomplishes his final play/endgame. I actually really enjoyed this series. I thought it was interesting and refreshing. I liked how the story continued to get better and better. It was an entertaining series for sure. I thought the story was good. I thought the interactions between Robin and Zylas were great. I thought that they were great characters and complemented. This book was much better than the first book. I thought the plot was more creative and interesting. Also, I thought Robin grew as a character, and I thought it was nice to get more of a romance in the story. I thought the ending was intriguing. I wonder how the other series will turn out. Overall, a great read.

Review: Keeping 13

Keeping 13 Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amazing Read

This was an incredible read. Thank you to my best friend, Sharon J, for recommending this book to me. This is the second book of the Boys of Tommen series. This was the continuation from the final chapter of Binding 13 of Johnny and Shannon’s story. I loved the book. This was the perfect way to end Johnny and Shannon’s story. However, I hope to see them more in the next books in the series. This book was so much better than the first book in my opinion. I thought the growth in Johnny and Shannon’s relationship was beautiful. I also loved how he protected her from everything she has been through. I thought they were made for each other, and I loved Johnny’s parents. I loved how Shannon began to open up more. She finally found a person she feels safe with. I am excited for the next book as we get to see Joey and Aoife’s story. I know it is going to be great, and I can’t wait to see what happens in Book 3 - Saving 6. Overall, an amazing read

Review: Binding 13

Binding 13 Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amazing Read

This was an incredible read. Thank you to my best friend, Sharon J, for recommending this book to me. This is the first book of the Boys of Tommen series. This was a slow-burn romance story. I loved the book, but I do understand why it is not the most popular book. However, I loved it because of the characters and the way their friendship turned from trusting one another to becoming more than friends. It showed the progression of their relationship with their issues and all. This is why I love slow-burn romances so much because we get to know the characters so much. Shannon Lynch is a girl who has been through more than anyone should ever go through at a young age. She transfers to Tommen to start fresh after being bullied severely at her old school. Johnny Kavanagh is a rugby star at Tommen. He is in line to play for Ireland's U20 league during the summer. I thought the romance was slow, but it built their trust with each other and made them more relatable. The ending was incredible. I did not expect that ending. I cannot wait to read Book 2 - Keeping 13. Overall, an amazing read.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke

November 2023 Review

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is the first book of the Hannah Swensen series. This is a reread for me, but I am glad to get into the story again. I enjoy cozy mysteries like this one. In this book, Hannah Swensen is the owner of a cookie bakery called the Cookie Jar in Lake Eden, Minnesota. In the alley behind her store, she finds the body of the dairy deliveryman, and she agrees to help her brother-in-law who is trying to land the job of detective within the sheriff's office solving the case. I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning, but it still held my interest as there was a murder. I thought Hannah was a great MC. I love that she bakes, but I am kind of hungry with all the recipes in this book. I did not like her sister much. I felt like she was not as interesting as Hannah. Also, I think she needs to stop working as much as she does for her to take care of her kid. There is a bit of a romance. It was nice but could have been better. Also, the reveal of the shooter was a bit of a letdown. I was expecting something more realistic, but I thought it was good enough. The series looks good. Hopefully, it gets better from here. Overall, a great read.

Review: Star Witch

Star Witch Star Witch by Helen Harper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amazing Read

This was an incredible read. Thank you Sharon J for recommending this book to me. This is the second book in The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Magic trilogy. I loved every minute of it. I thought this book was better than the first book. I love Ivy. She is my type of heroine. She is snarky and badass. I also loved that we got to see the Adeptus Exemptus Winter in this book, especially since there is a murder to be solved on the set on the reality tv show "Enchantment" where a contestant had mysteriously died. It also happens to be Ivy's favourite reality show, so it was fun to get inside her head and see how much she loves the world of "Enchantment". The world is unique and I really enjoyed the world of a reality tv show in book form. I loved the mixture of magic with the modern day world. The humor in the book makes the book funny, yet mysterious. I cannot wait to see what book 3 - Spirit Witch has in store for me. Overall, an amazing read.
